In recent years, education has faced many challenges, and we know our staff continually goes above and beyond to ensure our schools are safe and engaging environments for students to learn and grow. Columbia Union School District started this school year to formally celebrate staff members who are making a difference by lending a helping hand to students, families, and one another. Whether it is through a small gesture or a big effort, these actions have a ripple effect that make Columbia the special place that it is.

January Winner

Breanne Brown, School Secretary

“She is always available to assist with Aeries.  Even though teachers always need help, she never gets frustrated, and will help or explain the solution even on multiple occasions.”

February Winner

Tanji Fields, Literacy Interventionist

“Tanji is kind to everyone; is upbeat and positive and is always ready to help her students. She jumps at the chance to support the classroom teachers in helping students become fluent and confident readers.  I appreciate her professionalism and her team approach.”

Nominees

Roberto Bem, MOT

“Every encounter, be it minor or major, Roberto is there! He's the first to jump in and help, he's always smiling and just such a hard worker!”

Tina Cruz, School Counselor

“Tina does it all! She has had a full plate since I began working here and each year she takes on more with a smile on her face! She cares deeply for our students, their families, and her coworker and steps up when she sees a need. Our campus community is so lucky to have her!”

Jona Evanson, Instructional Technician

“Jona is amazing with this student and a huge advocate for his needs.  When she isn't helping with students she is helping me.  She is always asking what she can do to help.  Cutting, cleaning, taking out my garbage, organizing, you name it she will do it.  She is always busy and comes in with a positive attitude.  I appreciate her very much.”

Abbie Jasmer, After School Program

“Abbie shows up to work every day with such a positive attitude. She is able to be flexible and calm in difficult situations, and she truly cares about the students and staff she works with! Abbie is a gem of an employee, and Columbia is lucky to have her!”

Sheila Lane, First Grade Teacher

“Effortless. Kind. Brave. These are a few words that I will share when it comes to Sheila.  She creates bonds with all of her students and takes time to listen to her students. When you walk into her class you can feel how inviting it is. Her students are engaged and always have smiles on their faces while learning. She is always there for when a teacher needs her for advice, lesson planning, and/or so much more!  Sheila is a teacher…and that IS her superpower!”

Jeff Raabe, MOT

“Jeff is always eager to help and be there for others.  He is always willing to help and I have never seen someone so excited to drive the bus!”

Bea Sardinas, Guest Teacher

“Bea is so adaptable.  She can work in any classroom.  She is soft spoken, kind, and very caring.  The kids like her.  I appreciate it when she comes to my room and works with my students.”
