Bennett

Ms. Michelle Bennett comes to Columbia Elementary School as a Kindergarten teacher.  Due to increased enrollment, Columbia created a third section.  Ms. Bennett comes to the position having previously taught in other grade levels and excited for the challenge.

“I always loved school and truly always wanted to be a teacher,” explained Ms. Bennett.  “When I got to college, I ended up torn between nursing and teaching so I asked my grandma.  She told me I would make a good teacher so that was what I became!  Grandma always knew best!”

Ms. Bennett believes that every student has the potential for greatness, that everyone learns in a different way and can bring a new way of thinking into the classroom, and that everyone can learn from one another.

“My goal is for every student to graduate kindergarten with a love of learning,” she said.  “I hope to provide a safe and loving environment where they can all learn and enjoy being at school.”

Ms. Bennett’s favorite memory as a teacher was having former State Senator Tom Berryhill come and speak to her students with the senator extending an invitation to the State Capitol.  He also answered their many questions and gave them signed copies of the state constitution.  Her students did end up visiting State Senator Berryhill at his office in Sacramento with some continuing on with a visit to Washington, D.C. to know more about the differences between state and federal government.

Ms. Bennett has been enjoying her transition to Columbia, citing the “welcoming” and “helpful” staff.

“I am excited to be a part of this team!” she exclaimed.

In her spare time, Ms. Bennett loves the outdoors and exploring the mountain in her Jeep and chasing around and cheering her son in his sports.
